About a Project

The main objective of the Jean Monnet Module “Future of European Cities: Towards inclusive, sustainable and smart urban development” (EUCities) at SGH Warsaw School of Economics is to promote excellence in teaching and research about the European priorities and values in urban development and migration policy as well as to strengthen cooperation and dialogue between researchers, policy makers, civil society, and ordinary inhabitants (especially marginalised social groups such as migrants, refugees, school youth, seniors). The project aims to stimulate the debate on the importance of sustainable, inclusive and smart cities as well as socio-economic cohesiveness in EU context.

 

The most important activities: 

1. Lectures for SGH students (Polish and foreign students from other EU and third countries  of Bachelor and Master degree studies, in Polish and English; on-site and hybrid mode) on socio-economic problems of urban development with the special attention paid to such issues as social inclusion and policy towards diversity, digital transformation, sustainable development and fight against climate change, social participation and active citizenship. In order to achieve excellence in teaching and the best didactic results, both courses will be conducted with use of many diversified didactic methods, in a hybrid mode. The participation of experts, local government or civil society representatives in lectures is planned.  

2. Lectures at the Festival of Science (open to wide audience), lectures for seniors associated within the SGH Third Age University 

3. Events addressed toward different social groups: roundtable debates and a conference, with policy makers, civil society organisations, experts, media 4. Workshops for marginalised social groups. All events will be conducted in a hybrid mode or webinar form. 

5. Research activities will be undertaken as well. Its aim is to analyse the importance and level of implementation of European priorities and values in urban and migration policy development, generate knowledge and insights in support of EU policymaking, ensure up-to-date scientific accuracy and consistency of all activities undertaken during the project. Additionally, the result of the research will be scientific and public audience papers. The research will be divided into four thematic areas: inclusion and diversity in urban areas, implementation of new technologies in urban governance, environmental challenges and implemented solutions, social participations and the problem of active urban community. 6. The generated knowledge will be disseminated via papers in prestigious academic journals and public audience papers, as well as the website and profiles on social media will be launched. The events will be also promoted by SGH community, local NGOs and local media.
